The dancer had her first round of chemotherapy earlier this month
Following her first round of chemotherapy, a Strictly Come Dancing star contracted sepsis and was rushed to hospital. Amy Dowden started her chemotherapy earlier this month to help tackle her breast cancer and the Strictly Come Dancing star explained she felt OK at first, but then her temperature soared to 37.7C.
She told Hello! Magazine: "I felt freezing cold but I was all clammy and shaking. My mum and dad rang my red card [which provides the chemotherapy team’s contact details and current treatment information] and they said to hang up and ring the ambulance."Amy's mum Gillian added: "We didn’t know what to do with ourselves, everything was looking very serious. What I couldn’t believe is how quick the situation can change and how little time you have to respond.
According to the NHS, Sepsis is a rare but serious reaction to an infection, and is when the immune system overreacts and starts to damage the body's own tissues and organs. Sepsis is hard to spot because it has similar symptoms to other conditions such as flu or a chest infection. One wrote: "Chemo and its treatment is scary and tough and often has lots of complications sadly. Really glad you got in hospital in time.
