A controlled explosion was carried out
Two Second World War detonators were blown up in a controlled explosion last night after being discovered at a beauty spot by a metal detecting enthusiast.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attended and eventually took the items away, which were destroyed in a controlled explosion at Pennington Flash. "It was about a two-hour wait for the bomb squad. They eventually came as did two fire engines. After that the police never spoke to us. "That's where all the emergency services were gathering. I overheard them say they needed an area 200 metres squared to carry out a controlled explosion."
