Climate scientist Prof Simon Tett, of Edinburgh Uni, said the country needs to do more both to slash emissions and 'prepare for the changing climate'.
Storm Babet shows Scottish ministers “have not done enough” to ready the country for the effects of climate change, experts have warned.
A seven-year-old flood wall - part of a £16million scheme to bolster resilience in the Angus town - was completely overwhelmed. And a report by the Climate Change Committee last March warned: “Progress in delivering adaptation has stalled.” Prof Tett added: “There are things for adapting to climate change, which I have to say the CCC has criticised the Scottish Government quite heavily for not doing very much about, or not enough.“These events will become somewhat more frequent and more intense. So thinking about flood defence schemes that work in that different climate is quite important.”
It added: "The lack of a specific adaptation risk, with actions to address it, means that this critical issue was much less likely to be considered at an executive level.”
