A mother-of-three who died after being swept into the water during Storm Babet has been described as "a ray of sunshine". The family of Wendy Taylor, 57, said: “We are absolutely heartbroken to lose Wendy in such tragic circumstances and are still struggling to come to terms with it.
They said they particularly wanted to thank Paul Morgan of Police Mountain Rescue for recovering Wendy. they added: “Thank you to all of our extended family and friends for supporting us through this indescribably difficult time.” A second victim was 83-year-old Maureen Gilbert, who was found dead after her home was hit by flooding, Her son told how he found his mother “floating in the water”.
“I’m not saying anything could have happened differently we just don’t know. I just don’t think there’s enough being done with flood defences.” “The rivers should be clean, they should be dredged, they should be widened, they should be cleaned out. It is an unfortunate thing, it might only be the one person that it’s happened to.”
While several flood warnings have now been lifted by the Environment Agency it has warned more could be on the way. It said: "More flood warnings are expected to be issued across these regions into next week.
