Craig Crouch, 39, who killed his baby stepson Jacob Crouch, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Friday after being convicted of murder and three counts of child cruelty on Wednesday. Jacob’s mother, Gemma Barton, 33, was convicted on Wednesday of causing or allowing the death of Jacob, and sentenced to seven-and-a-half years behind bars today.A jury heard Jacob, who was found dead in his cot on 30 December, 2020 at the family home in Foxley Chase, Lindton, near Swadlincote, Derbyshire, had 39 rib fractures, 19 visible bruises and internal injuries likened to those seen in car crash victims.He said: “He was a small baby who had not yet learned to walk or talk.
Speaking to Barton, Mr Justice Kerr said she had noticed Jacob’s bruises and did nothing to protect him.
