Saints supremo John Needham believes the UK Government plans are well wide of the mark.
St Mirren chairman John Needham slammed plans to control football supporters’ buses as “ill-conceived” and “entirely unnecessary”.
The Scottish Football Association, Scottish Professional Football League and Scottish Women’s Premier League issued a joint statement earlier this week criticising the “heavy-handed” proposals, which they believe “demonise” supporters of the beautiful game. “Both sets of fans often mingle ahead of kick-off in restaurants and pubs and there’s been very few issues whatsoever.
The former RBS chief believes selling alcohol inside football grounds in a structured way would be a positive move for Scottish football, having seen the positive impact that has had south of the border. “I expect you’d also see a lot of self-policing by other fans too if it was taken advantage of or abused, as you often see with other issues inside grounds.”
