Birmingham City had lined up Wayne Rooney for the manager role in the summer – and John Eustace knew all about it,Blues fans have voiced their displeasure after the popular Eustace, 43, was sacked following two wins that took the club to sixth in the Championship table. He reassured supporters that “the future is bright and we are on the rise again”.
He led Birmingham to five wins from their opening 11 Championship games of the season, including recent back-to-back victories over West Brom and Huddersfield. The Solihull-born manager helped steer the St Andrews’ club clear of relegation last term, helping them to a 17th-place finish after winning 14 of 46 league games.
