Marcel Sandu has been jailed and could be deported once he finishes his term, a judge has said
A ‘sophisticated’ thief who stole more than £30,000 of perfume for Manchester Airport’s duty free has been jailed for 18 months.
On those occasions, prosecutor Hannah Forsyth told Manchester Crown Court, the pair would enter the airport under false identities in the early hours. Not content with those spoils, the pair returned three days later, on June 9, to steal 87 bottles of Tom Ford and Chanel perfumes, worth £9,165, Ms Forsyth told Judge Patrick Field KC. The offending then ceased for over a year, she continued, before the July 12 Jersey incident foiled their scheme.
Representing Sandu was Mr John Kennerley. He explained that his client had been driven to thievery out of circumstance. “Mr Sandu has been candid about his share of his bounty in these offences. He accepts he would have made several thousands of pounds passing the items on to someone else. He has shown remorse for his offending.”
