Renewable energy firm Locogen have earmarked agricultural land to the north of Loch Fergus, 5k south east of Ayr, where they hope to build the solar farm on a 58.2 hectare site.
Plans for a massive solar farm in the Ayrshire countryside, with as many as 100,000 panels, have been unveiled by the Scottish Government's energy consents unit.
Locogen hope to win permission to change the use of the land to incorporate their solar farm, which would be roughly equivalent in size to 150 football pitches. And there could be as much as £18,000 in community benefits per year, with the firm “committed” to working with Coylton Community Council, local community groups and the wider community to “discuss how the fund is administered.” But Stuart Hamilton, Development Director at Locogen, previously said: “We look forward to continuing engagement with the local community as our plans develop.”
