Michael Sturrock could be the SNP's first elected representative who voted against independence.
An SNP staffer who voted No in 2014 is bidding to become the candidate in the party's safest Westminster seat.
The SNP currently holds a majority of nearly 15,000 votes in Falkirk, which is the largest of any seat in Scotland. He also said he had changed opinion because of the "plain difference in the values and visions between Scotland and past and likely future Westminster governments". Sturrock works as Robertson's communications chief. He was the campaign organiser for the former SNP Westminster leader's successful bid to become an MSP in 2021.
Depute leader of Falkirk council Paul Garner and local councillor Gary Bouse have put themselves forward for the nomination. It is understood that another few potential candidates are debating whether to run or not. "I have also served on numerous boards and committees. I know our area and its issues better than any other candidate."
