ONCE again it is time to review the progress being made by the independence movement and in particular the SNP at a time when the Rutherglen…
, supporting the “rape clause” and hardening their attitudes towards immigration and the green agenda, ignoring Scotland’s democratic right to a referendum on independence and worst of all, their appalling attitude to devolution, the cost-of-living crisis, falling living standards and the plight of the poor in society. Their support of the Tory attacks on our trade unions is jaw dropping.
Our task is to ensure the Scottish voter is not seduced in to “giving Labour a chance” at the next election. Our battle cry will be independence is normal; independence will lead to greater prosperity for our people; independence will provide us with ALL the economic levers to make our country the success it can be; independence will allow us to take our place in
and the rest of the world; independence will give us back our sovereignty within a written constitution and independence will create a real social democracy with the rights and welfare of our citizens at its very heart. Our job is, at every opportunity, to get the independence message out there to every voter.
Very quickly the party will require to identify its strategy after all the consultations. Going forward it may be prudent to look critically at the issues, advice and perspectives raised by several experts, commentators and pundits. These may be useful in informing many of the decisions the SNP as well as Yes movement will have to make.
Lesley Riddoch and Tommy Sheppard in recent articles suggested the issues to be addressed and provided constructive solutions. The SNP need to engage with those outside the party who support independence and have much to contribute. INDEPENDENCE must be at the centre of our strategies at all levels of the party. Clear links and structures must be agreed with the wider Yes movement. SNP members and activists will expect nothing less.
