Angela has been running the centre since 1977 with her husband
A pilot is celebrating 11,000 hours of flying and has been awarded a certificate of merit for services to skydiving. Angela Hickling, of Waltham on the Wolds, has been flying for more almost 50 years, and alongside her husband Dave has been running Skydive Langar, near Bingham, since 1977.
Angela began her flying career in Sydney, Australia during 1975. Since then Angela has flown nearly 12,000 hours in aircraft including an Islander, Cessna 206 and the Grand Caravans at the skydiving centre. The 75-year-old has also taught those training to become pilots. In addition to commercial flying, Angela also flies for fun and has travelled around the world doing so. She has flown sea planes in the USA in previous years, and will continue her passion by flying smaller planes including a Cessna 206 known as ‘Oliver’.Angela and Dave were joined by the current management team at Skydive Langar in February 2020 and together they have since grown the centre to be a home of skydiving excellence.
Her work has been recognised by the governing body for skydiving, British Skydiving, with a certificate of merit. This achievement was celebrated with a party at Skydive Langar just before her 75th birthday. Richard Wheatley, chief instructor at Skydive Langar, said: "Angela has been a valued and essential member of the Skydive Langar story and we all feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to work alongside her and learn from her. Her commitment to growing the centre has been awesome and her passion for flying is an inspiration. We look forward to a continued relationship with her as she moves into this new phase of her flying career and thank her for everything she's done.
