Everton players and staff wore black armbands during their match against Aston Villa on Sunday

Sky Sports have issued an apology to Everton after commentators mocked black armbands worn by the team.Everton staff and players wore black armbands to pay tribute to Michael Jones, the 26-year-old fan who tragically lost his life whilst working at the site of their new stadium last week.

“We have spoken to everyone involved in the coverage including both the commentators and have reminded them of their responsibilities and the need for care and sensitivity. We apologise for any upset or distress caused by these comments."It has been reported that both Leslie and Hinchcliffe have expressed regret over their comments.

Jones died in hospital following an incident at the Bramley Moore Dock site at around 1pm last Monday. A statement from Jones’ family said: “The family would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support. It is with our greatest sadness that our beloved son, brother uncle and friend Michael has sadly passed away.

“We want to thank the NHS staff and work colleagues who did their best for Michael. He will be missed beyond words.”Everton’s new stadium is currently under construction and is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 25/26 season.Featured Image Credit:

Dyche was wearing the armband in tribute to Everton supporter Michael Jones, 26, who died earlier this month while working on the construction of the club’s new stadium. To mark his passing, Everton players and staff wore armbands in tribute to Jones, while a...
