'It's something different'
Nottingham's star attraction at Winter Wonderland was conceived during the Covid pandemic as a way of allowing skaters to be socially distanced. Even though restrictions are long gone, the new aerial ice path, Sky Skate is proving an instant hit with skaters, who can glide around all four corners of Old Market Square, high above the crowds.
Rebecca said: "It's amazing. It's something different. The ice rink wasn't here last year. Ollie's really excited." Commenting on the price, she said: "I think we paid just under £40 for four of us. It's pretty decent. It's something to do. It's entertainment for his birthday so I thought it was quite good really."Ayda Mellors, 11, said: "It's really fun.
"A part of it was when we were looking in Covid early doors, saying how can you make a socially distanced ice rink? If we put lines and chevrons like on a motorway you can socially distance people. Obviously everything changed and we didn't build the ice rink at that time but that's how it started, the inspiration.
