Sir Michael Parkinson has sadly died at the age of 88
Sir Michael Parkinson's family has today confirmed that the TV broadcaster has sadly died aged 88. Born in a village in South Yorkshire his impressive seven decade career saw him interview some of the world's biggest stars, including Muhammad Ali.
A statement from Sir Michael's family said: "After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family."It added: "The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve." Sir Michael spent many years working for the BBC where he had interviewed more than 2,000 guests in total. After two years in the British army, he began his career in journalism for the Manchester Guardian, before joining the Daily Express in London.The news has come at such a huge loss and shock for Yorkshire.
