Sarah was hoping to make memories with her daughter after a difficult year
Sarah Watkinson, from St Helens, is among hundreds of passengers who have had their flights cancelled following a technical fault in the UK's air traffic control system. The travel chaos could last for days, with delays starting on Monday after a UK air traffic control failure meant flight plans had to be input manually by controllers.
"We were due to fly back at 2pm on the Tuesday and my daughter starts high school on the Wednesday so we can't even extend it or rearrange it. I'm back at university as well." "I had my nails and toes done which I never do - I'm a student midwife and we can't have anything like that. But it's more the memories. It's been a difficult year; I've lost family members, lost my dog - we just really needed it."
Passengers are being urged by airlines to check before they leave for the airport as their flight times may have changed.
