The repair work is expected to take two days
A sinkhole that caused the closure of a road in Nottinghamshire was caused by a collapsed sewer, Severn Trent Water has confirmed. The hole was reported in Breck Hill and Thackery’s Lane, Woodthorpe at around 8am on Tuesday, August 1.
Traffic was diverted as a result, including a Nottingham City Transport bus service. Severn Trent said Breck Hill Road will be closed for the duration of the repair works, which they hoped to be completed in the next two days. Ray Keen, part of the water supply company's team in Nottingham, said: “We know that this is a really busy location and want to make sure that we complete this repair as quickly and safely as possible. Barring any unforeseen issues, we hope to have this repair complete in a couple of days.“We know that roadworks can be frustrating, and we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience while we make this important repair.
A number of sinkholes have opened up across Nottinghamshire over the past few months, with two being reported in close proximity in Newark. A hole also opened up in Violet Hill, Mansfield in March, with a car getting stuck in one in Worksop a month later.
