Saba Sams: 'I go to the page to entertain myself' 📚 One minute with the author of Send Nudes
I’m in my living room looking on to the street. I was heavily pregnant all summer, and I remember really looking forward to these cooler months. I find it so much easier to write when my life is slower, as it always is in autumn and winter. I think I have to be a little bit bored in order to produce my best work, because I go to the page to entertain myself.by Doris Lessing. I was intimidated by its length so I put off reading it for years.
It feels like she’s having fun with it, like she’s only looking to gross herself out or make herself laugh. I have respect for that.I seem to move every couple of years, and I have young children, so I’ve learned not to be fussy. I’ll write in a café, in bed, hiding in the wardrobe.I find myself relating to all fictional characters once I’m sucked into their world. Recently I readby Fernanda Melchor. It’s a short, intense novel about two teenage boys who hatch a horrific scheme.
