The Scottish Government must be "open and upfront" about the issue of violence in schools, an MSP has urged.

It comes as the Scottish Government today confirmed a summit on violence in schools will hold its first session next month. We told how reports of violence against pupils and staff in primary schools had risen by 56 per cent in just a single year. "Thankfully still rare, there is, however, clearly a problem with the current approach to managing behaviour in schools.

"The government must be open and upfront about the scale of the problem because that is the first step in taking action.
