Linda Whittet, 72, found out she was banned from Jolly’s Hotel in Broughty Ferry the day after Derek Jamieson, also 72, was told he was not welcome.

Wetherspoons has been forced to apologise after banning a pair of pensioners from the same pub after two cases of mistaken identity. Linda Whittet, 72, found out she was banned from Jolly’s Hotel in Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, less than 24 hours after Derek Jamieson, also 72, was told he was not welcome.

She told The Courier: “I went up to order the coffees, then a young member of staff came over to me and said I had been identified as someone who had been banned from the premises. I thought it was a joke at first but he was deadly serious. Derek said he was stunned to find out he was banned, adding that he had nothing to do with the incident. He told The Courier : “I honestly thought it was a wind-up and told the staff member they had the wrong person.

Top news stories today According to the Mirror, the pub chain previously hit the headlines back in 2018 after a 69-year-old was banned for complaining about being only served five chicken nuggets.
