Lynsey Houston's is hoping to raise awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) after her son was diagnosed with the condition in 2020.
The mum, from Edinburgh, had never previously heard of it but has since discovered that on average two children in every class at school are likely to have DLD.
On Friday, Edinburgh Castle was lit up purple to raise awareness of DLD and to spread the message that the disability can affect people around the world regardless of age, gender, language or ethnicity. "He struggles to process what’s being said or asked of him, sometimes it takes a few attempts. He has lots of ideas but struggles to express them, lots of emotions but can’t say in the moment what’s upsetting him.
