His daughter Emma who plans to run the Edinburgh marathon with her siblings in memory of their dad told of the difficult years following his diagnosis. “It was a difficult time for the family as we could not see anyone due to the restrictions and Michael was living in Edinburgh with his pregnant partner. Although for the first six months of his being diagnosed, you would not notice he had MND unless you spoke to him.
“In May 2021 he felt uncomfortable sitting in the wheelchair or recliner and in June he was completely bedbound using the eye gaze computer screen to communicate. We had to adapt the house by bringing in a hoist and all the different equipment. “It was hard, the kids obviously saw a lot of things you would not want them to see. Things like incontinence and that is quite hard when they were only 17/18 at the time,” Lynda continued.
