People are being warned of potential "danger to life" injuries from falling debris and large waves in coastal areas, as well as possible damage to buildings. The forecaster reported: "A deep area of low pressure is expected to pass to the north of Scotland later on Tuesday, clearing away to the east during Wednesday. Whilst at this stage there is still some uncertainty regarding the onset of strongest winds and to what extent more populated areas of the Central Belt are also affected.
