As seen in the clip, the water level slowly starts climbing at around 12pm, before surging in the late afternoon. At around 4am on Friday morning, the camera disconnects due to a "broadband service or power supply" issue. The dramatic video was shared by the Moray Communities Facebook group, alongside the caption: "Check out this watercam footage of the River Esk, at Edzel".
