'I’m working every day on the training ground and in the gym'
Sam Slocombe discussed his dynamic with fellow Notts County goalkeeper Aidan Stone, as the pair compete for the same spot in the team. The 35-year-old has come back into the team at the expense of summer arrival Stone in recent weeks, starting the last four league games after acting as a backup to start the season.
“The way we play our football and the work we do on the training ground to prepare for that means that missing two or three weeks of pre-season as I did was a long time to be out. Aidan has done fantastic when he has been in goal so far this season which has brought a real strong element of competition to our goalkeeper unit. We have different skills which I think suit different games.
It is Stone’s turn to watch from the bench currently and Slocombe recognises that is difficult for any goalkeeper, but he believes the training environment allows them both to thrive.
