Runswick Bay was named the Sunday Times' Beach of the Year in 2020, with its popularity as a tourist destination increasing

Landowners have applied to North York Moors National Park Authority to create a 42-bay site at the top of Runswick Bay, near Whitby. But national park planning documents said the plan provided an alternative to "on-street parking problems". Coupled with the cost of living crisis, it was more likely many people would choose to holiday in this country or take day trips to places like Runswick Bay, they added.
