The plans have divided drivers in the borough
A decision over whether to raise hackney fares in Knowsley could be taken this week with drivers divided over the plans.
However, not all hackney drivers are keen on the plans, with objections raised by drivers from the All Blacks Cabs association and the Liverpool City Region Hackney Carriage Drivers Co-operative amid claims a fare rate rise would impact unfairly on residents in one of the most deprived boroughs in the country.
Mr Hodson said the situation is worse of an evening where it is not worthwhile for some companies to run drivers and impacts especially on people using wheelchairs who may not find private hire vehicles as accessible. Mr Ellis said the proposed increase was “inflation busting” while plans to introduce a new peak rate tariff was “nothing short of outrageous” and would negatively impact the borough’s night tie economy.
