An unexpected but perfect evening for our reviewer
When my sister looked into the eyes of my three-year-old as he told her he missed her, she couldn't refuse his little face and offered to have him overnight. Without even consulting my husband, and before she had time to reconsider, I said: "Aw, what a lovely idea, see you then," and hung up the video call.
The only other place that had a sea view and the offer of a drink was The Harvester, also known as The Derby Pool, named after the outdoor swimming pool that once stood on the site. But could we really spend our impromptu date night at a Harvester? And does that make me a snob for even asking that question? In fact, don't answer that.
It was a Sunday evening and when we arrived at around half seven, it was busy, but in a nice bustling way. We were seated by the window which gave us a stunning view of the coastline, something I don't think this Harvester makes enough noise about, and with the golden sun just beginning to tuck behind the collection of clouds that had settled on the horizon it actually made for the perfect setting for a date.
There is an outside terrace, but the husband and I had left in such an excited panic of a childfree evening we had left our jackets at home and we all know a British sunset can often be a little chilly. But next time, I could see myself out there, sipping a cold drink, taking in the uninterrupted sea views and listening to the soft waves.
