Severn Trent has issued a statement

Residents in a Nottinghamshire town have spoken out about a 'huge' crater which has left part of a busy road closed. The large hole has opened up due to a burst water main on Mansfield Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Residents said the closure has caused the high street to be 'rammed' and described it as 'inconvenient'. Sixty-one-year-old Dawn Stanley said Outram Street is usually busy. She said: "It needs to be filled in, it wasn’t that big before. It was a big pothole. It started with the frost and just got bigger. With the diverted traffic, they will have trouble because Outram Street is busy."

Another resident, Phillip Windsor, 69, said the roads are packed with traffic. He said: "I came here two days ago, cars were going over it, nothing was being done. I’m glad to see something is being done now. As you can see the high street is now rammed."
