Earlier this year the farmer submitted a planning application to vary conditions for the slurry lagoon at Beech House Farm in Hayton, near Aspatria
. Planning permission was originally granted by the then Allerdale Council in September 2021 and the applicant has applied to have the condition that there should be a floating cover over the fluid varied so that he can use slurry bugs instead.
She said conditions had not been enforced and added: “Despite being in operation since January 2023 conditions have been breached – no cover, no hedge, and no fence prior to commissioning.” They reported the matter to Allerdale council and have also provided photographic evidence to Cumberland Council’s planning department in May.
He said: “This development has been allowed to take place but seems not to have been policed at any key stages by council officers. It appears there has been no attempt by the planning authority to ensure that all conditions of the consent granted by the same authority were being adhered to.”
