Wing Commander Adam Collins explained why the display had to be rearranged

An RAF wing commander has explained why a torrential downpour at Blackpool Airport forced the Red Arrows to cancel their scheduled appearance at Southport Air Show on Saturday .

Thousands flocked to the event, taking place this weekend, to watch displays from the RAF Typhoon, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, acrobatics from Team Raven and the Chinook helicopter. The RAF has now explained why the Red Arrows had to reschedule their trip to Southport.Wing Commander Adam Collins. the officer Commanding the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, said that the runway at Blackpool Airport was the reason for the rescheduling.

In his earlier statement, he said: "We’re disappointed that we couldn’t display at the Southport Air Show, but unexpected heavy showers, localised to Blackpool meant the runway would not be safe for us to land on after the display. None of the other airfields close to Southport were available for use this weekend.
