Although the exact science behind yawning is not yet 100 per cent clear, there are plenty of theories behind this everyday bodily reflex
When feeling tired or sleepy, one of the body's most common responses is yawning. But why do all humans do this? And when can too much yawning be a cause for concern?Theories stated that when people get tired or bored, their breathing tend to become much more shallow, meaning less oxygen intake. Yawning as a result was thought to be the body's involuntary reflex to help regulate oxygen levels to increase alertness.
When we yawn, our jaw stretches, increasing blood flow into our neck, face, and head. The intake of breath during a yawn pushes spinal fluid and blood downwards, meaning the cool air being inhaled cools down these fluids and the brain’s surface. However, another physician, Adrian G. Guggisberg, argued that for people living in hot countries, this would mean the brain needs cooling more if it’s hotter outside. He added that if there are other ways to cool our body temperature, such as sweating, then ‘it is unclear why we would need another regulator which fails when it matters’.
You could also try being more active, as yawning tends to signify boredom and tiredness. Excessive yawning may also be a result of too much caffeine. Try cutting down and hydrate yourself with water.
