Nottinghamshire Live readers have voiced their sadness after it was announced that this year's Nottingham Bonfire Night event has been cancelled. Nottingham City Council said the annual bonfire night and firework display at the Forest Recreation Ground is off due to budget pressures.

However, like many councils around the country, the city council said it is facing huge budget difficulties which it says have been exacerbated by rising inflation, energy costs and other pressures. Councils in Manchester, Dundee, Cardiff, Liverpool, Leeds, Glasgow, Norwich and Hackney have all announced decisions to cancel bonfire night events this year.Yet, the decision to cancel the event was met with frustration, with one reader commenting that they were "gutted" by the decision.
