One source claimed Sir Keir’s team wanted to give Ms Rayner a more substantial brief without creating too much pressure on spending, with Ms Reeves and her shadow Treasury team keeping tight control of commitments.
Sir Keir attempted to reshuffle his deputy – also shadow minister for the Cabinet Office – in 2021 by removing her as party chair and campaign co-ordinator.
