More than 20,000 rail workers across the country are on strike at the weekend
The high-profile trade union leader Mick Lynch will be in Nottingham at the weekend as more than 20,000 rail workers go on strike. Members of the RMT Union across every grade of train operating companies will be walking out as part of a long-running dispute over pay, job security and working conditions.
Mr Lynch has become a high-profile figure across the country since the RMT's dispute began, with clips of him sparring with interviewers such as Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley and Talk TV's Piers Morgan going viral on social media. Speaking about the latest day of strike action, Mr Lynch previously said: "The mood among our members remains solid and determined in our national dispute over pay, job security and working conditions.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps previously said that the median salary for a train driver was £59,000. But given that the RMT primarily represents other rail workers, such as guards and maintenance workers, the union is continuing to push for a pay rise of at least 7 percent.
