The group had travelled to Royal International Air Tattoo when their minibus broke down

A group of Nottinghamshire Scouts were left overjoyed when the RAF came to their rescue when their minibus broke down. The Gotham Scouts had travelled from Nottinghamshire to Gloucestershire for the Royal International Air Tattoo - the world's largest military air show - but found themselves unable to get home when the minibus they had hired from their local church failed to start on Friday, July 14.

Katrina Thorley, one of the volunteer assistant Scout leaders, said: "We have a partnership with the RAF and we get free tickets for the Friday. So we went down, parked it up, went to the event, met Tim Peake, and did a few other bits and bobs."When we got back to the minibus it wouldn't start. We had recovery and everything on it. We rang them at about 4.15pm and by 8pm we were still no further forward.

"And they turned up with the minibus with drinks and crisps for all the kids to keep them going on the journey and they drove us all the way back to Nottingham, and bear in mind, they then had to drive back so they wouldn't have got home until half one or two in the morning.
