“For me, it's just cool to be able to have people associate me with the real thing,” said Isaiah, who plays Johnson in 'Winning Time.'
Telling Johnson’s story, even in a dramatized form, can be challenging. So much is already known about him, and Lakers fans feel a special duty to hold him in the highest regard.. But Isaiah has figured out he has similarities to Johnson, which has helped his growth as an actor and his role in “Winning Time.” He, like Johnson, is from Michigan. And he, like Johnson, was the young voice in a room full of veterans, many of whom were accomplished and established in Hollywood.
Isaiah never brought arrogance to the set in Season 2. The cast and production crew said Isaiah took his game to the next level. The way the Lakers’ success hinged on Johnson for much of the 1980s, the success of this season had a lot to do with how Isaiah handled the responsibility of being the star.
Isaiah is comfortable asking for advice and relying on more experienced actors to guide him as he finds his way.One thing that made Johnson so popular was a magnetic personality Lakers fans are still drawn to. Isaiah also has some of that in him.
