Yevgeny Prigozhin presented a 'shocking challenge' to Putin that may yet have repercussions for the Russian president.
‘As is traditional, the Kremlin hasn’t yet responded, which usually creates an information vacuum that makes the event rife with speculation.
Prigozhin, 62, had apparently been exiled to Belarus after the act of rebellion before appearing in St Petersburg during thelast month. The latest known image of the businessman, posted on Telegram channels, showed him in a desert area which he said was in Africa. ‘If indeed the Kremlin was responsible, there is a clear message that those who go against the Kremlin will be punished,’ Ferris said.‘Two months ago, there was surprise that Prigozhin was essentially allowed to live a life of exile in Belarus, that a deal was struck and that punishment ultimately evaded – even though some of his assets were seized.
Emergency services finished combing the crash site today and a criminal investigation has been launched into the incident.
