An amazing gesture - but one that should not be needed
A community pub is set to become a warm bank to help the most vulnerable people in its community during the cold winter months.
Significantly, the pub is offering its services as a place for warmth for no return, by stating that they don't require anyone to purchase anything from them and can simply have free water or soda. Paul Dean who is the pub's landlord, along with his business partner John spoke to LancsLive about why they made the decision.As a business, Paul says The Alexandra has also fallen victim to soaring costs.
Paul added: "During the Queen's funeral, we found out that Blackburn food bank was to closed for the day. We were approached and asked if we could hold it in the pub instead, which we did and it brought our attention to issues with people in the area. Paul decided to open up the pub to people in the community after talking to many customers about their struggles and how the rising bills and cost of living crisis is affecting them. He says it's the main topic of conversation at the moment.
