Acclaimed clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson has listed the steps people should take if they wish to become the best version of themselves
A top psychologist has shared the 12 life rules everyone should follow if they wish to become 'the person they've always wanted to be'. Speaking to Dragon's Den star Steven Bartlett on his podcast, Diary Of A CEO, Jordan Peterson listed the steps people should take if they hope to become the best version of themselves.
Happiness is a pointless goal, he claims. Instead, urges people to search for meaning, 'not for its own sake, but as a defence against the suffering that is intrinsic to our existence'. He adds: "Attend carefully to your posture. Quit drooping and hunching around. Speak your mind. Put your desires forward, as if you had a right to them—at least the same right as others.
3. Befriend people who want the best for you The expert stresses the importance of being friends with people who truly want what's best for you. He says these people "will encourage you when you do good for yourself and others, and punish you carefully when you do not." 5. Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them Explaining the reasoning behind his fifth point, Peterson concludes: "Here’s a straightforward initial idea: rules should not be multiplied beyond necessity. Alternatively stated, bad laws drive out respect for good laws."
He went on: "If you act properly, your actions allow you to be psychologically integrated now, and tomorrow, and into the future, while you benefit yourself, your family, and the broader world around you."
