Its the second protest planned for the city centre this weekend

Nottingham will join a national day of action to say 'enough is enough' as energy prices and the cost of living soars. The protest, which takes place across England, will start on Lower Parliament Street before moving to station Street and ending at Market Square on Saturday, October 1.

The protest will start at 6.30am at the CWU picket line on Lower Parliament Street before moving to RMT picket line on Station Street. The march will set off at 11.30am from Station Street and travel through the city centre before arriving at the E.O.N offices on Burton Street to demand an end to the high profits being reported by energy companies.

Energy companies have been posting record profits as people report that they are struggling to pay their bills. Energy company E.O.N reported £1.2 billion in profit with adjusted earnings before interest and taxes were £1.8 billion with reports of £1.28 billion in the previous year. The march will move from Burton Street towards Market Square for a rally where speakers such as Nadia Whittome MP and representatives from the RMT and CWU will speak.

Campaign group Enough is Enough is coordinating protests across thirteen cities in the UK including Nottingham. Other cities also hosting action events include London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Leeds, Cardiff, Newcastle, Hull, Norwich, Portsmouth and Plymouth.
