Downes had been causing 'problems' in Macclesfield for over 20 years
A shoplifter has been banned from entering Co-Operative stores in Cheshire for two years. Christopher Downes was handed a criminal behaviour order for "over two decades" of shoplifting.
The 59-year-old was given the order at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Monday under the CBO which was applied by Macclesfield South Beat Management.Downes will now only be allowed to enter the town centre to attend pre-arranged appointments at Macclesfield Police Station or the doctors surgery on Sunderland Street. He could face a prison sentence if he is found in breach of it.
"I hope the granting of this CBO can provide some reassurance to residents and businesses in the area and will deter Downes' behaviour in the future.
