There were violent scuffles between police and protesters outside Downing Street
Protesters hold placards and wave Palestinian flags as they walk over Westminster Bridge with the Palace of Westminster, home of the Houses of Parliament behind them Officers appeared to be detaining someone before demonstrators began scuffling with them. Punches and kicks were thrown and officers ordered the demonstrators to move away.
The suspect is in custody and the Police Officer is being looked after by Police Medics, on route to hospital.The National March for Palestine set off from the capital’s Victoria Embankment at midday on Saturday. Meanwhile, the feminist direct action group, Sisters Uncut, said it had occupied London Waterloo Station, inviting people to join the demonstration “to demand an end to occupation”.
Dozens of people with Union flags stood close to the Cenotaph, which was guarded by police officers, as the pro-Palestine protest filed past. Protesters could be heard chanting “shame on you”.The Met Police said that more than a thousand police officers are on duty “to provide reassurance to those who want to make their voices heard, as well as proactively dealing with anyone who breaks the law.”
