Ms Patel, who contemplated her own bid for Number 10, tweeted this evening: ‘It has been the honour of my life to serve as Home Secretary for the last three years.The divisive Home Secretary was not expected to be keep her job in Ms Truss’ new Cabinet. In a letter to outgoing PM Boris Johnson, she wrote: ‘I congratulate Liz Truss on being elected our new leader, and will give her my support as our new prime minister.
