More recently babies born into the family have been given far less formal names, however, they are still in keeping with royal heritage. Nine of the late Queen's descendants are named in her honour, even if they don't share her first name.
However it's clear that when the Prince and Princess of Wales decided to name their daughter Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana in 2015, that it was a nod to her great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and her grandmother Princess Diana. Other members of the family to be named after the former monarch include Princess Beatrice , Zara Tindall Isla Phillips and Lady Louise Windsor .
The Princess Royal is typically the eldest daughter of the monarch but the inheritance of the title is not guaranteed if the previous holder is still alive.
