Lord Mark Sedwill is facing questions at the COVID inquiry; Imran Hussain has resigned his Labour shadow cabinet role over Sir Keir Starmer's position on an Israel-Hamas ceasefire.

Counsel to the inquiry, Hugo Keith KC, now asks Lord Mark Sedwill to reflect on the information given to Cabinet in February 2020. He asks, in hindsight, does Lord Sedwill think Cabinet was given a proper understanding of the seriousness of the COVID pandemic at the time.

Lord Sedwill replies by saying in the first half of February there was a 'high level' and a 'good explanation' of the nature of the virus. 'There was an explanation about the potential level of fatalities and casualties should the reasonable worst case was to manifest itself,' he says. 'There was an assurance that plans were in place to manage it...those plans should have been interrogated more carefully by me and at the cabinet level.
