COVID-19 Inquiry: Key figures provide evidence on the UK's pandemic preparedness and resilience -

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is spending his morning visiting healthcare facilities in Nottinghamshire as the governmentThe scheme - which could catch up to 9,000 cases of lung cancer sooner, or even prevent them - could provide almost one million scans and earlier treatment.

A statement on the UK Government's assessment of developments in Russia this weekend is expected to be delivered later by a senior minister – likely to be Foreign Secretary James Cleverly. However, Mr Blinken told CBS it was"too early" to predict what impact the mutiny could have on the Kremlin. He said:"I think it rapidly became clear, particularly when the shooting began, that he [Prigozhin] didn't really have any prospect of succeeding. No-one was going to join him."

Former advisor to Tony Blair, John McTernan, added:"It's a crazy idea [to ignore the independent pay review bodies], and I think it's just another excuse to hold down on something the government can hold down on." The study compared the NHS with the health systems of 18 similar higher income countries - the original 15 European Union member states, excluding Luxembourg, and the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The government's wavering position on NHS pay presents Labour with both an opportunity and a challenge. Labour's Emily Thornberry was withering in her interview with Sky News this morning:"I mean, seriously - do they really have a policy at all?" Ms Thornberry told Sky News that Labour supported the Bank and that it had a"difficult job to do", but added:"We also think that inflation is not just down to what the Bank of England can do - it's also having a proper economic policy."Asked if the governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, was doing a good job, Ms Thornberry appeared to hesitate, saying:"I'm sure he's doing a good job.

Earlier, Helen Whately told Sky News she won't"pre-empt" the process and government must"make decisions in the round" Asked about those comments, Ms Thornberry said it was"only a few months ago that they said they couldn't possibly pay out any more than the pay review bodies say, and today they seem to be saying they're going to override the pay review bodies".
