A police officer is under investigation for accessing the social media of a key witness during the murder investigation into his cyclist dad’s death.

Mike Parsons is accused of accessing the LinkedIn profile of Caroline Muirhead while she was helping his colleagues investigate those responsible for the disappearance of father Tony Parsons.

Sandy, 31, was sentenced to 12 years for culpable homicide on Friday for killing Tony after striking him with his car while drunk driving on a rural Highland road and then burying his body in a peat bog. His twin brother Robert was sentenced to five years and three months for defeating the ends of justice by helping to bury Tony’s body.

Caroline, 32, said: “The only way I knew was because I had a premium feature which tells you who has searched for you and it said ‘Mike Parsons’ and ‘searched by name’. It wasn’t as if he had just come across me by accident on there. But she claims her safety was compromised dozens of times over the next 9 months. One complaint claims that a female detective exposed Caroline as the possible source of information in front of the McKellar brothers just seven days after she gave Police Scotland a statement .

Caroline also said that two of Alexander McKellar’s friends were told she had left a crushed Red Bull can at the burial site and confronted her about it in a local bar in Bridge of Orchy.
