A serving police officer has been found guilty of assault after she punched a bouncer outside a pub in Rushden last December. Northamptonshire Police are now holding a misconduct investigation.
The disturbance on December 11 2021 began in the King Edward VII pub in Queen Street, Rushden. The disturbance then spilled out into the street, where PC Canwell assaulted the member of door staff.The trial heard how PC Canwell punched the bouncer two times in the chest. The officer was off-duty at the time.
The 37-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge of common assault on the first day of her trial at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday . However, she was found guilty the following day.
