Sgt Wheeler has since retired
A then-serving police officer exploited a domestic violence victim for his own sexual gratification and sent naked pictures to the suspect in a criminal investigation, a court was told. Shaun Wheeler was a sergeant working for Lincolnshire Police - with 30 years of exemplary service and a chief constable's commendation for bravery under his belt after an incident involving drug dealers with loaded weapons.
She revealed his messages to a friend and began to ignore him, considering him to be "a weirdo", Nottingham Crown Court was told as Wheeler was sentenced for misconduct in a public office. She described in her statement her relationship with her ex had been "complete and utter hell". Her partner stole her confidence and she was too scared to leave him, but eventually she did.
Once he finished, he stood up and exposed himself to her, leaving her with flashbacks and feeling sick. Wheeler told her if she did not engage with him, he would drop the charges against her ex-partner. An investigation was carried out by the Independent Office of Police Conduct, following a referral made by Lincolnshire Police in 2019 when the actions of Wheeler were uncovered.
